A craigslist ad for a little cabin in the woods 12 years ago changed the course of my career like I could have never imagined. My blog and first couple books were entirely inspired by cooking in that first cabin we lived in. For my 5th book, I wanted to take the idea of 'cooking in a cabin in the woods' on the road! That was the inspiration for #ForestFeastRoadTrip cookbook (1 year old this week!). We rented and visited 10 cabin-ish homes all over California and I photographed each for the book. These were not extravagant vacation home rentals but simple, beautiful spaces in stunning locations. Recipes in the book were inspired by each of the regions surrounding these homes. Here's a photo of each: 1- a Craftsman cabin, built by the owners in the mountains near Big Sur. There was a wood-fired sauna & an outdoor bathtub! 2- @skyfarmyurt is a bohemian oasis urban farm in the middle of Los Angeles with a killer outdoor kitchen.(found via @Airbnb) 3-This A-frame had beautiful midcentury touches and was perched in the trees near Big Bear Lake. (Airbnb or VRBO, can't remember) 4- The bedroom at the house we rented @humboldtbaysocialclub had a soaking tub and beautiful wood details. Loved the whole concept of this place! 5- We stumbled upon De La Cour Ranch, a lavender farm near Lone Pine, CA with tent cabins & a magical view. We picked plums and gathered eggs for breakfast. 6- Found this octagonal cabin on Airbnb in Tahoe. Kids loved the loft area! 7- This is my aunt and uncle's beach house in Santa Barbara – it's my favorite place, ever. Nothing like waking up for a morning swim, then coming back for breakfast on that deck! 8- This was a stunning house in Sea Ranch that we found on Vacasa. Can’t beat the hot tub’s ocean view! 9- Palm Springs in January is perfect. We loved picking oranges for breakfast in the backyard! 10- The original little cabin that started it all!
